An Efficient Algorithm for Mobile Object Localization in Video Sequences
Visual, Modeling and Visualization Workshop (VMV'99), Erlangen, Germany
ABSTRACT
Lo calization of mobile objects in image sequences is a task that emerges in several applications in the fields of object-based coding and video understanding. Several algorithms have been reported in the literature for both the case of static and moving camera, focusing on either accuracy of the obtained results or real-time performance. In this work, an edge-based method is employed for the localization of moving objects in video sequences acquired by a static camera, without extracting the object contour. The particular method is extended to the case of mobile cameras using a block-matching motion estimation algorithm. The proposed system focuses on minimizing computational complexity while maintaining satisfactory results for surveillance and indexing purposes. Experimental results involving indoor and outdoor natural sequences have been included.
