The main objective of this project is the development of an integrated environment including techniques and algorithms for (i) content-based access to visual information, images and videos, concentrating mainly on the latter (ii) effective content-based retrieval in the corresponding systems. The content-based query and retrieval techniques under development include algorithms for image/video coding, processing, analysis and synthesis. The project aims at the implementation of an integrated system for efficient content-based indexing, query and retrieval of images and videos from multimedia databases. The project, as well as the supported PhD research, will be compliant to the new Motion Pictures Expert Group (MPEG) coding standards, namely MPEG-4 and MPEG-7. |
