I was born in Athens, Greece in 1971. I live in Athens with my wife Maria, my daughter Penelope and my son Antonis. I obtained a Diploma Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1994 and a PhD in Computational Intelligence in 1998, both from National Technical University of Athens. Now, I am a lecturer in
School of Electrical and Computer Engineering,
Division of Computer Science and a member of the Image, Video and Multimedia Laboratory, heading the Knowledge Technologies Group. Before, I was a senior researcher in the Institute of Computer and Communication Systems. My main research interest include knowledge representation and reasoning (description logics, logic programming, fuzzy logic, ontology and rule languages), theory of uncertainty (fuzzy sets and systems, Markov models), machine learning (neural networks, support vector machines), semantic interoperability (ontology alignment, Semantic Web applications) and digital archives (multimedia content annotation, metadata standards, multimedia databases). I have been involved in 15 European and 11 National R&D projects and published 1 edited book, 20 articles in international journals, 8 book chapters and 65 papers in Conferences and Workshops in the above areas. I have contributed in the Organization, Technical or Steering Committees of more than 20 International Conferences and Workshops and have been reviewer in several conferences and scientific journals. I am the W3C Advisory Committee Representative of National Technical University of Athens and a member of the Steering Committee of RuleML.
