Short Bio
I was born in Athens (Greece) in January 1981. Currently I am a PhD Candidate at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the National and Technical University of Athens and a member of the Knowledge Technologies Group.
My research interests include knowledge representation both under certain and uncertain or imprecise knowledge based on crisp and fuzzy descriptions logics, ontologies, implementation and optimization of reasoning systems and applications for the Semantic Web.
The main focus of my work is the implementation and optimization of fuzzy reasoning systems. I designed and implemented the innovative fuzzy reasoning engine FiRE based on the fuzzy description logic f-SHIN which is used for many Semantic Web applications. In future versions FiRE will be extended to support fuzzy OWL-DL.

Another important part of my work involves the implementation of multimedia ontologies. Multimedia algorithms offer rich but imprecise information for multimedia documents, hence, representation using uncertainty is necessary. I have also participated in W3C Taskforce Multimedia Annotation on the Semantic Web (MM).

FiRE is a fuzzy reasoning engine based on the fuzzy description logic f-SHIN. In future versions FiRE will be extended to support fuzzy OWL-DL.
